A good skin care routine will not magically make you look 20 years younger, but it can make your skin healthier and brighter.
Speaking to GB News, a doctor shared two important skin care steps that will help you to "achieve the best skin of your life at any age".
According to facial plastic surgeon and co-founder of Keller Plastic Surgery, Dr Gregory Keller, a good routine starts with cleansing.
He said: "Cleanse regularly with the right products. Cleansing is the foundation of any skin care routine.

Cleansers remove impurities and help skin care products penetrate into the skin
| GETTY"It removes impurities and prepares the skin for other treatments. Cleansing twice a day helps maintain a fresh, clean canvas."
Cleansing removes dirt and bacteria from your face, helping brighten your complexion and giving the rest of your skin care products a better chance of absorbing. The step will help the active ingredients in your serums and moisturisers penetrate more deeply into the skin, allowing them to work more effectively.
Once you have done this, think about hydrating and protecting the skin barrier. Finding good moisturisers is the best way to complete this next step.
Dr Keller continued: "Hydration is essential for plump, youthful-looking skin. Using a moisturiser which supports the skin barrier is key."
HOW TO LOOK YOUNGER
Cleansers and moisturisers are key products to use both in the morning and at night. The expert also stressed the importance of wearing SPF daily.
Dr Keller said: "Sun protection is non-negotiable. UV rays are one of the primary causes of premature ageing, so applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 is critical.
"Whether it is sunny or cloudy, sunscreen should be a staple in every skin care routine to protect against sun damage and maintain youthful skin."
What you should prioritise in your routine will change with age. In your 20s and 30s, "focus on prevention". The doctor said: "Use sunscreen daily, maintain hydration and incorporate lightweight anti-ageing ingredients to preserve youthful skin."

Hydrating products, such as moisturisers and serums, are key for youthful skin

In your 60s, "combine targeted skin care with professional treatments such as IPL or microneedling RF".
The ingredients in the product you use matter, so it is worth checking the anti-ageing benefits. Experts discussed one trending skin care ingredient that could help "future-proof" skin and protect against visible ageing.
