'Healthy hair equals youthful hair,' an expert exclusively told GB News

Upping your hair game is one of the easiest ways to take 10 years off your appearance, so never underestimate the power of a good cut, colour, and style.

Indeed, a trip to the salon can be totally transformative. With the right vision (and stylist), you can achieve maximum volume, bounce, and vibrance in just a few hours.

The best hairdos will even create the illusion of a brighter, lifted face – perfect as we get older and face inevitable signs of ageing.

But even a world-class hair appointment can only do so much; while beautiful locks are built in the salon, they must always be maintained at home.

Celebrity hairstylist Dean Banowetz (aka Hollywood Hair Guy) believes that "healthy hair equals youthful hair". Speaking exclusively to GB News, he shared his top tips for a beautiful barnet.

The expert advised women to hydrate their locks weekly, using a deep moisturiser to "fight dryness and frizz".

In a similar vein, he encouraged them to limit their use of heat. While hot tools can create an array of chic styles, from sleek and straight to wavy to full-on curls, they can also "dry and damage" the hair.

"If you do use any source of heat, always use a heat protectant," Mr Banowetz cautioned.

For a more youthful look, the hair guru also advised anti-ageing enthusiasts to incorporate a little luxury into their routines.

"I love scalp massages because they boost circulation and help promote hair growth over time," he revealed.

"You should also use a silk pillowcase or a silk bonnet, as these reduce breakage and dryness and help battle morning frizz," the expert concluded.

Always remember to be gentle with your hair, too – it's not a myth that some hairstyles and even washing techniques can result in hair loss.

It's clear that implementing healthy hair care is essential if you want to look younger.

But if you are heading to the salon and need some inspiration, the celebrity hairstylist previously told GB News exactly what to ask for (and what to steer clear of).

Colour

Mr Banowetz's go-to shades for a youthful glow? Golden, caramel, and rose gold tones that bring warmth to the complexion. "Warm skin equals a youthful appearance," the expert explained.

He also warned against harsh colours like jet black or flat brown, claiming they can add years to your look.

Instead, he championed "multidimensional" shades and recommended salon glazes for that "fresh, glossy finish without causing damage".

Cut

As for his chop of choice, the hair guru favours shoulder-length styles or shorter, explaining that longer hair can "drag down" facial features.

He advised steering clear of blunt, one-length cuts in favour of textured ends and gentle layers.

"Layers are known to bring movement, and they take the weight off ageing features," the hairstylist noted.

Face-framing curtain bangs or a soft fringe can "brighten the face while concealing fine lines".

Style

For styling, the hairstylist encouraged women to prioritise creating volume at the crown using root sprays or texturising powders.

His other favourite trick is tucking one side behind the ear to "lift the cheekbones and really open up the face".
