After 'rigorous flavour testing', top crisp chiefs whittled down the 63 flavour proposals to just two through a meticulous six-stage evaluation system

Walkers has revealed two innovative additions to its permanent collection for the first time in decades.

The Leicester-based company's decision is a historic moment for the brand, which has not expanded its core selection since introducing favourites such as Prawn Cocktail, Roast Chicken and Smoky Bacon during the 1970s.

Now, crisp fiends have been called upon to welcome Sticky Teriyaki and Masala Chicken varieties to supermarket shelves across the nation.

These innovative offerings draw inspiration from Japanese and Indian culinary traditions, respectively, bringing new depths of flavour to the classic range of British crisps.

Crisp chiefs whittled down the 63 potential flavours to just two

The launch follows 12 months of secretive development work, with the new varieties now available nationwide from today, which originally started off through an ambitious selection process involving a gobsmacking total of 63 potential flavour concepts.

To whittle down the options, Walkers' development team employed a meticulous six-stage evaluation system to assess each proposal, ultimately selecting just two winners from the extensive pool of candidates.

The year-long project featured extensive taste trials and what the company describes as "rigorous flavour testing" to ensure the new additions would meet consumer expectations.

Market research conducted by the crisp manufacturer has revealed a bounty of enthusiasm for these adventurous additions to British snacking options.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

An impressive 73 per cent of participants expressed a preference for Masala Chicken over the established Prawn Cocktail variety, whilst 65 per cent favoured Sticky Teriyaki when compared with traditional Cheese & Onion.

Perhaps most striking, nearly half of those surveyed - 49 per cent - admitted preferring these "bold" and "innovative" newcomers over the complete existing Walkers selection.

Such overwhelming approval suggests British consumers are eager to embrace more internationally-inspired snack options, moving beyond the conventional flavours that have dominated supermarket aisles for generations.

The Sticky Teriyaki variety promises a harmonious blend of sweetness and tang, designed to deliver an authentic Japanese-inspired sensory experience.

Both varieties are available at Tesco

Meanwhile, Masala Chicken offers what Walkers describes as a "rich and creamy" interpretation of Britain's cherished Tikka Masala, providing the nation's favourite curry in a convenient crisp form.

Both varieties are currently stocked at Tesco, priced at £2.15 for six 25g packets, with wider availability expected throughout UK retailers.

Senior marketing director at Walkers, Wayne Newton, commented: "Our development team has been on a mission for the past year to find two new flavours that meet the highest standards.

"After thousands of crisps crunched, flavours tested, and bags rustled, we're pleased to bring something entirely new to the table with Sticky Teriyaki and Masala Chicken."
