The Isle of Wight has been named the most expensive region in the UK to purchase petrol with prices peaking up to 150.6p.
The steep fuel prices follow the Channel island’s recent financial shortfall which could see council tax rises of five percent to offset the import and export costs affecting the area.
West Berkshire followed the Isle of Wight as the next most expensive region in the UK, with fuel prices reaching 150.1p in popular cities like Reading.
Orkney Island in Scotland came in as third most expensive place to purchase petrol with prices here costing 148.7p.

Chester East in England was up next with prices in this region hitting 148.2p, with North Ayrshire following closely behind with 147.2p for fuel.
A spokesperson for Petrol Map highlighted how expensive fuel was in England, telling GB News: “It’s really concerning to see only two England areas being represented in the UK’s top 20 cheapest petrol price list.
“With the cost of living costs, this is just another burden that has a huge impact on people’s daily lives.
“These constant high prices need to be resolved sooner or later because the people in England are just constantly being ripped off for fuel that would’ve cost so much lower a few years ago.
“We don’t deserve to struggle like this.”
Petrol has been on the rise for the past few years and was sparked by the fuel crisis amid Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and subsequent inflationary pressures.
The price of petrol in Isle of Wight is 7.2p higher than the national average of 143.4p for unleaded which rose by 3.2p from 140p on February 18.
As for diesel, prices jumped from 148p to 152p in the same period. Petrol costs had been falling over the last three months by 17p from 157p to below 140p in mid-January, the lowest it’s been since mid-October 2021.
Simon Williams, an RAC fuel spokesperson, explained how fuel prices on the rise again is bad news for drivers, and possibly the economy and future inflation rates, too.
He added: “The result is higher prices at the pump and more expense for the everyday driver.”
Drivers can expect to pay more than £1.47 for their average litre of petrol in Flintshire, Conwy, Milton Keynes, Denbighshire and North Ayrshire.
The price of petrol has continued to increase across the UK with supermarkets and major retailers also raising costs. Drivers can find a staggering 14p difference between supermarkets’ cheapest and most expensive prices.
