Mr Stapleton spoke candidly about his Parkinson's and how he remained positive, even in his final days.
He was reunited with fellow broadcaster and friend Penny Smith, whom he had enjoyed a close on-screen relationship with for 17 years.
The broadcaster died in hospital this morning after a battle with Parkinson's complicated by pneumonia.
