Henry Cavill fans were silently wishing he would be given the role as the next James Bond

Aaron Taylor-Johnson was announced to have been “formally offered” the role as the next James Bond – which has left Henry Cavill fans furious with the snub.

It was revealed last night that the Marvel star is expected to accept the role as 007 and take over from Daniel Craig who has been at the helm for 15 years.

According to The Sun, a source claimed: “Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it. The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back.

“As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement.”

For months, fans of James Bond had been theorising as to who would step into the role and names such as Leo Woodall, Idris Elba, Barry Keoghan, Cillian Murphey, Paul Mescal and Cavill were in the mix.

After the announcement was made, fans of Cavill – who has starred in Man of Steel, Justice League, and Mission Impossible: Fallout – were let furious he was “snubbed” of the role.

Taking to their social media accounts, one fan fumed: “There are so many better options for James Bond than Aaron Taylor Johnson.

“Henry Cavill and Richard Madden would crush the role easily. John Boyega could be amazing if given the chance. What's Aaron Taylor Johnson's best role? Kickass? Quicksilver? That's awful man.”

“HENRY CAVILL WAS RIGHT HERE,” another exclaimed as a third noted: “Um, Henry Cavill, Idris Elba, Henry Golding, Dan Stevens, and Richard Armitage were right there!!”

One user explained: “I like him as an actor. Just don't see him as Bond. Henry Cavill is right there damn!”

“Not making Bond movies with Henry Cavill was such wasted potential. Sighhhhh,” as sixth quipped.

However, not all fans of Bond were left unhappy with the choice, as one praised: “People crying for Henry Cavill and Idris Elba.

“The former has limited range. The latter is ancient. They have cooked so hard with this casting.”

Taylor-Johnson recently opened up about whether he would accept the offer of Bond if he was approached last week.

He said: “I find it charming and wonderful that people see me in that role. I take it as a great compliment.”

There is yet to be an official announcement as to who will be cast for the role – but one thing is for sure and that is they have big boots to fill.
