Britons could bask in 28C heat in just a few days time

Storm Antoni downpours look set to get replaced by 28C heat as a last-minute summer scorcher is now on the cards.

The change in conditions would mark a dramatic turnaround compared to this weekend.

Storm Antoni wreaked havoc across the UK, with flooding and winds of up to 78 miles per hour.

The Met Office claimed mercury could hit as high as 28C on Thursday, up from 25C on Wednesday.

“Wednesday to Thursday will be when we get an area of high pressure for a change and winds coming in from the south.

"By Saturday we will be back to showers and temperatures to around if not a little bit below average."

The UK’s national weather service added in a forecast: “Tuesday will be rather cloudy, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle.
