UK travellers are increasingly swapping long-haul holidays for shorter, more meaningful breaks, according to new research, as so-called “Little Big Trips” are set to be a defining travel trend for 2026.
In fact, some 66 per cent of Gen Z and Millennial travellers in the UK plan to take several shorter trips next year, rather than one extended holiday, and experts have shared the top options if booking a staycation.
The appeal lies in quality over quantity, with 84 per cent saying they would rather visit a rural area or smaller city than a major tourist hub, and 37 per cent actively chasing a more “genuine” travel experience, according to the research by KAYAK.
Flight searches for one to four day trips are up eight per cent year-on-year, while social media interest continues to grow. On TikTok, the hashtag #slowtravel has seen a post increase of almost 330 per cent, and #weekendgetaway is up 60 per cent.
