Britons may not need to leave the UK to find the ultimate holiday destination this winter, according to one expert.
She suggested the "outrageously beautiful" part of the UK that promises a restorative holiday in the coming months.
Kate Allen from Kingsbridge-based Finest Stays explained why this can be just as good as jetting off for some winter sun, highlighting South Devon as her top winter pick.
She explained: "This may be controversial, but I think we too quickly discount the UK in winter and that’s a mistake. On the right day, South Devon in January or February can be outrageously beautiful.

South Devon is beautiful in the winter months

"Crisp blue skies, bright winter light, and vast, empty beaches that feel completely your own. There is nothing quite like walking South Milton Sands, Thurlestone beaches or the shoreline around Salcombe without the summer crowds."
South Milton Sands is also a brilliant place to spot wildlife in its natural environment. Indeed, Visit South Devon stated: "If you want sand, stunning scenery and the chance to see rare wildlife on your holiday, then South Milton Sands has got the lot."
For a brisk winter stroll, South Devon connects to the beautiful South West Coastal Path - a walking route with 630 miles of incredible scenery.
Whether travelling to Devon by car or train, the journey is often quicker and much less stressful than having to catch a flight. Plus, the UK has some scenic driving routes.

Allen added: "It is peaceful, dramatic and restorative in a way few overseas destinations can match. Instead of flights and transfers, you simply get in the car.
"Think coastal walks, bracing sea swims, beachside saunas, then a proper British pub with roaring fires, local ales and excellent fresh seafood. No generic resort bars, just comfort, character and calm. It’s also far better value."
Exploring the UK in winter is not only convenient, but it is often quieter and more affordable than in the peak summer months.
The expert added: "Winter UK breaks avoid peak pricing, don’t require flights, and offer flexibility that overseas travel often cannot. When the weather delivers, and it often does, it is hard to beat.”
