A travel expert has shared the best places to visit depending on the time of year

Britons have plenty of options when booking a UK getaway, but the best places to visit will change depending on the time of year.

A travel expert had shared where is best to go if booking a last-minute January holiday, or if you are planning a getaway in February or March.

Travel expert at leading tour operator, Rabbie’s, Hazel Rickett, said: “Choosing the right destination at the right time can honestly make or break a trip; it’s all about understanding where to go at different points of the year."

She recommended the Isle of Skye if travelling this month, Glasgow for a February adventure and Dublin for a March break.

January - Isle of Skye

The Isle of Skye, found off the west coast of Scotland, is beautiful at any time of year. It has dramatic landscapes and a rich history, but there is something about seeing it in the winter months that adds a layer of magic.

Rickett said: “January is a wonderful month to consider a visit to Scotland’s incredible Isle of Skye. With dramatic winter landscapes, moody skies and snow-dusted mountains, this area provides the perfect backdrop for a scenic January escape.

"Due to its remote setting and lack of light pollution, there’s even a chance to spot the Northern Lights throughout January, depending on the weather. It’s simply a magical destination that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime."

February - Glasgow

Glasgow is a dynamic city with plenty to keep visitors entertained, come rain or shine. Immerse yourself in the dynamic bar and restaurant scene, wander through the West End or visit local museums.

The travel pro added: “In February, I believe Glasgow is a great place to visit. With temperatures still on the cooler side, there are plenty of exciting indoor attractions and activities to choose from, including the Riverside Museum, Kelvin Grove Art Gallery and Wellpark Brewery, where Tennants is made. Glasgow is suitable for February, as it’s not weather-dependent.

"The city offers a variety of high-quality cafes, restaurants, and pubs, ideal for indulging in local culture and cuisine. Glasgow’s Celtic Connections festival is also in full swing throughout February, so expect plenty of exciting events across various music venues, from Oran Mor to the Emirates Arena."

March - Dublin

Just a short flight from the UK and you will find yourself in the lively capital of the Republic of Ireland. Visit in March to enjoy St Patrick's Day festivities.

Rickett added: “With St. Patrick’s Day taking place on March 17, there’s no better place to spend the Irish holiday than Dublin. The city comes alive throughout the month with parades, live music and a buzzing atmosphere, making it an ideal time to experience Ireland’s culture and character.

"Outside of St Patrick’s Day celebrations, March marks the beginning of spring, offering the perfect opportunity to explore the Irish capital’s iconic streets. Whether you’re discovering historic landmarks or attending a memorable St Patrick’s Day event, there’s something for every type of traveller in Dublin."
