The UK has lots of options for a weekend break filled with crisp walks, beautiful scenery and rich history.
Rydal in Cumbria has been named the best place for a short break at this time of year, according to new consumer research.
Britons named their top locations as part of the research by Sykes Holiday Cottages, with the Cumbrian village proving most popular.
Holidaymakers love "its impressive scenery and rich literary link" and it is a good place to explore nature thanks to its woodland, fells, and the Rydal Water.

If visiting Rydal, Britons might want to explore Rydal Cave, which is located on the north side of Loughrigg Fell, above Rydal Water.

"This famous lakeland beauty spot is actually man-made, as a result of slate quarrying," Visit Lake District states.
"Take the stepping stones through the shallow lake at the entrance (you may even see some small fish) into the drier floor space inside the cave. Remember to take your torch so you can see where you are stepping."
Other popular places to head this season include Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire, the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire and Wells in Somerset. Cambridge came in third place, and experts have shared the best things to do there at this time of year.
