The update turns your tablet into a new hub for discovering music, podcasts, audiobooks, and more

  • Spotify launches a new app designed for your tablet
  • You can access music, podcasts, audiobooks, and video content
  • It's compatible with iOS and Android devices

Spotify has just rolled out a new app specifically for your tablet, and it's designed to make your listening and watching feel much more at home on a bigger screen.

The update turns your tablet into a proper hub for discovering music, podcasts, audiobooks, and video content. You can explore your library on one side of the screen while something plays on the other – ideal for when you want to find your next favourite artist without pausing what you're already enjoying.

Nicole Burrow, Head of Design at Spotify, said: “From TV to desktop to the car, we’ve been designing Spotify to feel native to each screen — and now we’re bringing that same experience to tablets.

"Tablets give you more room to explore, so we designed it to let you browse and discover new favourites alongside what’s already playing. The goal was simple: Wherever you open Spotify, it should feel unmistakably like Spotify.”

The update is available on both iOS and Android tablets.

Here’s everything you need to know about the streaming giant's newest app.

The interface automatically adapts when you switch between portrait and landscape modes, reorganising itself to fit the screen layout.

You'll also find a collapsible sidebar to help with multitasking. You can keep it tucked away while you're focused on what's playing, or expand it when you want to dig deeper into your library. It even lets you scroll through content without interrupting your music.

Video fans can take advantage of the "Switch to Video" toggle, which now sits front and centre for easier access to the music video of a song.

The core navigation you may be used to from your phone hasn't gone anywhere. The bottom bar still keeps your main pages within easy reach.

There's also a handy side drawer that slides out when you need quick access to your profile and settings.

This isn't the only update Spotify has been working on, either. The company has unleashed a new feature to tackle the surge of AI-generated music.

The reason? Music has been ending up on the wrong artist pages across streaming services for years, and the explosion of easy-to-create AI music has only made things worse.

Spotify explained, "For the first time on any music streaming service, we’re giving you the ability to review and approve or decline releases delivered to Spotify from most providers. To protect your artist identity and prevent listener confusion, only the releases you approve will appear on your artist profile, contribute to your stats, and show up in recommendations to your listeners."

Music generated from AI tools has been clogging platforms like Spotify for months, making it more difficult to sift through legitimate creations. In the past 12 months alone, the company has "removed over 75 million spammy tracks" from the platform.

Spotify is also handing you control over what songs are recommended to you.

It has introduced Prompted Playlist, which lets you explain exactly what you want to hear and create the rules for a new personalised playlist. This means rather than simply learning from your behaviour based on your previous listening habits, Spotify now responds to your spoken or typed instructions.
