It will fuel connections across 150 airports in Europe

Mobile network EE – one of several brands that took home a gong at the most recent Uswitch awards — will deliver connections for pilots and other crew members, aeroplanes, and airports for easyJet across 35 countries.

The BT-owned brand will work with the UK’s largest airline to provide 23,000 mobile connections to support easyJet's operation across 150 airports in Europe. As part of the deal, easyJet pilots and cabin crew will access flight information and receive real-time training via the EE network.

All devices used by the easyJet teams will be equipped with eSIMs, offering a more efficient way to manage mobile connectivity across the continent. eSIMs enable remote set-up, enhance security, and simplify logistics.

Discussing the partnership, Chris Sims, Chief Commercial Officer at BT Business, told GB News: "This partnership with easyJet is about delivering the smart, seamless connectivity which is crucial when operating at scale.

"By equipping thousands of devices with eSIMs on EE’s award-winning network, we’re enabling easyJet to manage connections remotely, switch networks across borders, and reduce the complexity of traditional SIMs. It’s a future-ready solution that enhances security, boosts efficiency, and keeps teams connected when they need it most."

As well as connecting cabin crew and aeroplanes via the EE network, the partnership between the two companies will also enable new "smart messaging" to keep easyJet customers updated on their flight progress. EE will also provide iPads that pilots and crew use to provide real-time flight information.

Smartphones, mobile phones, and aircraft phones will be connected at all times to allow communication between airline colleagues.

The deal between EE and easyJet follows an agreement between Lufthansa Group and Elon Musk's Starlink company that provides full-fibre broadband-like speeds via a flurry of satellite orbitting the Earth. Starlink will offer fast internet connections across the entire Lufthansa fleet of approximately 850 aircraft in the coming months.

The German aviation giant will become the largest European carrier to adopt the satellite-based internet technology, with no other airline fitting more planes with the system.

All Lufthansa passengers will be able to take advantage of the faster speeds offered by Starlink — widely considered the best option for in-flight Wi-Fi with current technology — if they sign up for the loyalty programme.

The high-speed service will be complimentary for loyalty members and those registered with Travel ID, regardless of which cabin they are seated in. The enhanced bandwidth will support video streaming, cloud-based work applications and other data-intensive activities while airborne.
