The Australian will not be back in the booth at SW19 this year

Nick Kyrgios has announced the BBC has dropped him from their Wimbledon 2025 commentary team, with American player Chris Eubanks set to take his place.

The 30-year-old Australian revealed the decision, expressing disappointment at losing his punditry role.

Kyrgios, who made his BBC commentary debut at SW19 last year whilst recovering from wrist surgery, will not be returning to the broadcaster's coverage when the tournament begins on June 30.

The 2022 Wimbledon finalist confirmed that Eubanks, currently ranked 108th in the world, would be his replacement.

The BBC has not yet officially announced its commentary line-up for this year's Championships.

Despite the setback, Kyrgios suggested the decision would impact the BBC more than himself. "It's unfortunate but it's probably their loss more than mine," he said.

The Australian struck a more conciliatory tone when discussing potential future opportunities with the broadcaster.

"I'm sure our paths will cross again. I only ever want to add humour, some knowledge and some great atmosphere," he told the Guardian.

Kyrgios had been expected to return to the commentary box after confirming he would miss competing at Wimbledon due to a "small setback" in his recovery from a knee problem.

The injury had already forced him to withdraw from the French Open earlier this season.

Kyrgios launched a pointed critique of the BBC's decision, drawing unfavourable comparisons between his own achievements and those of his replacement.

"I understand they've got Chris Eubanks but he hasn't beaten the greatest of all time multiple times," he said.

The Australian emphasised his victories over tennis's most celebrated players to underscore his value as a commentator.

"When someone's beaten Federer, Nadal, Murray and Djokovic and has incredible insights, it's very strange you wouldn't want that person adding knowledge to tennis fans," Kyrgios said.

Eubanks, 29, reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals in 2023, marking his best Grand Slam performance. The American's appointment appears unlikely to generate the same level of attention as Kyrgios's presence in the commentary box.

Kyrgios made a successful transition to broadcasting last year when injury prevented him from competing at the All England Club. The charismatic Australian had undergone wrist surgery and proved a popular addition to the BBC's commentary team during the 2024 Championships.

His return to the ATP Tour this season has been hampered by fitness issues. A knee problem forced him to miss the French Open, and he subsequently confirmed he would not be competing at Wimbledon with his knee problem.

During his injury lay-off, Kyrgios also provided analysis for Tennis TV alongside his BBC duties.
