The family of Henry Nowak's killer, Vickrum Digwa, has issued an apology to the 18-year-old's parents and Sikh community.
It details how the family are "deeply sorry" and would "give anything to turn back time", but explain they "love Vickrum".
They also apologise to the Sikh community for their son's actions.
The statement comes as the killer's mother, Kiran Kaur, is awaiting sentencing today for assisting an offender.
She was found guilty of taking the ceremonial Sikh knife used to kill Mr Nowak back to their family home nearby in Southampton.
The 53-year-old will be sentenced on July 17.
In the statement, issued by the Sikh Press Association, the family apologised to the Nowaks: "The loss of a young life is a grief that no family should ever have to carry.
"We are deeply sorry for the pain and suffering the Nowak family has had to endure."
They continue to state their love for this son, saying it does "not stand in opposition" to the pain they feel for the 18-year-old's grieving family.
"We love Vickrum. We will continue to love him. That love does not stand in opposition to the sorrow we feel for the Nowak family. Both are real, and both will remain with us for the rest of our lives," they said.

They continue to say they would "give anything to turn back time" to ensure the two men "never crossed that night".
The statement said: "We would give anything to turn back time so the path of both Henry and Vickrum never crossed that night.
"We cannot change what has happened, we just hope that no further pain is caused in its name.
"We apologise to the Sikh community for our son’s actions which have unfairly brought the community into disrepute.

Henry Nowak was stabbed to death on the walk home from a night out with friends | HANDOUT"We ask that this tragedy is not used by anyone to inflame division or hostility towards any community.
"We now ask for privacy as we come to terms with what lies ahead."
On December 3 last year, Mr Nowak was fatally stabbed by Digwa after an altercation broke out between the two men.
Instead of calling for medical help, Digwa with the help of his family, called the police, who arrived at the scene.
Yesterday, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary released to bodycam footage of the arrest.
In the footage, Mr Nowak can be seen lying face down on a gravel driveway, to which a man tells informs police the 18-year-old is bleeding.
Mr Nowak then told officers several times "I have been stabbed" and "I can’t breathe".
An officer responds to the teenager: "You've been stabbed, mate? I don't think you have."
Three minutes after being arrested, Mr Nowak falls unconscious and is pronounced dead at 00.37am on December 4, 2025.
The case has captured the attention of the nation in what is being described as “two-tier” justice.
Reform UK’s leader Nigel Farage said today: "The last thing he heard was being read his rights by police. The accusation of a racial slur is treated more seriously than actual violence.
"What is the response of many of our politicians? Silence. It is two-tier Britain."
