DAZN was forced to apologise after the ex-Chelsea midfielder launched an on-air rant at Nicolas Jackson

John Obi Mikel launched an X-rated attack against Nicolas Jackson for being sent off just four minutes after being substituted onto the pitch during Chelsea’s Club World Cup game against Flamengo.

Chelsea lost the match 3-1, but were only 2-1 down at the time of Jackson’s substitution, after the game Obi Mikel did not hold back in his assessment of the Chelsea star’s contribution,

Shaking his head, the former Chelsea midfielder said: "Unbelievable. Stupid stupid stupid mistake.

"I don’t know what was going through his head. Your team needs you and he does that. He did the same at Newcastle… you can’t keep making these mistakes.

"I don’t care what his frustration is. This is a massive football club and it’s about competition. If you’re angry or p****d off, then you have to embrace it. We need competition."

After he finished his rant, DAZN presenter Kelly Sommers was forced to apologise for Obi Mikel’s choice of language.

Mikel later continued: "Jackson needs to have a word with himself, where do you want to go with your Chelsea career?"

Jackson did later apologise for his tackle, saying:

“I want to say sorry. To the club, the staff, my teammates, and all the fans watching, I let you down. Another red card... and honestly, I'm so angry at myself.

“I work hard every day to help the team not to put us in this kind of situation. I still don't fully understand how it happened.

“I'll reflect, I'll grow, and I'll come back stronger for the badge and for everyone who believes in me. Sorry. Sorry.”

Giving his own views of the red card, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca said after the full time whistle: “Nothing to say”.
