Irish singer-songwriter Cian Ducrot called out "Free Palestine" during his performance at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin before the British & Irish Lions match against Argentina.

The 27-year-old made the protest as players from both teams were leaving the pitch to return to their changing rooms.

Ducrot was finishing his second song when he replaced a lyric with the political statement.

The timing meant his words rang out just as the rugby players exited the field, ensuring maximum visibility for his pro-Palestine message at the high-profile sporting event.

The performance took place before Friday's rugby match at Dublin's Aviva Stadium.

His protest represents the most recent in a series of pro-Palestine demonstrations at sporting venues.

In March, Palestine Action flew a Palestine flag via drone over Allianz Stadium during England's Six Nations match against Italy.

The group stated they selected the match because Allianz provides insurance for Elbit Systems, described as one of Israel's biggest weapons producers.

Palestine Action has also targeted Donald Trump's Turnberry golf course in Scotland, where activists dug up greens, spray-painted buildings and created 10-foot-high graffiti reading "Gaza is not for sale".

Sources have told GB News the organisation is set to be designated as a terrorist group following incidents where its members breached security at an air base and damaged two RAF aircraft.

Similar protests have occurred across various sports. Paris St-Germain supporters displayed a "Free Palestine" banner in November, whilst a female spectator disrupted an Australian Open tennis match between Alex Zverev and Cameron Norrie in January by throwing leaflets bearing the same message onto the court.

The demonstrations reflect a broader pattern of activists using high-profile sporting events as platforms for political messaging about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with protesters employing methods ranging from aerial displays to pitch invasions.

Ducrot is a Grammy-winning artist who was raised in Cork.

His political statement at the Aviva Stadium comes just two days after another Irish performer faced legal consequences for expressing support for a Middle Eastern group.

Liam O'Hannah, an Irish-language rapper performing with the band Kneecap, was released on bail after appearing in court on terror charges. The charges relate to his alleged support of Hezbollah.
