The British no 1 looked comfortable throughout his victory

Jack Draper cruised to a 6-2, 6-2, 2-1 victory against Sebastian Baez, who was forced to retire during the third set of the match after a nasty slip.

The world no 4 was comfortable throughout the contest that lasted just 74 minutes, where he broke his opponent on five occasions without being broken himself.

After the victory, Draper sent a warm message to his Argentine opponent: "I wanted to play a bit longer. I was feeling like I was getting my tennis together.

"It's no way to win like that, and I wish Sebastian the speediest of recoveries."

Sebastian Baez was forced to retire through injury in the third set

Following the conclusion of the game, Draper visited his opponent straight away amid his retirement from the match.

The injury came from a nasty slip in the first set, that Draper took in a remarkable 26 minutes.

The Argentine had requested medical attention before the second set commenced, causing a delay of a few minutes.

Baez decided to carry on, but retired three games into the third set.

Draper continued: "I don't think about it [the pressure] until people mention it every five minutes! I just think about what I can control and play the best tennis I can.

"You can't think about any of that. I'm really looking forward to this next week or so, it's going to be great.

“I’ve got to think about the next match ahead of me, everyone in this draw can play incredible tennis. They can all cause an upset.”

Draper faces Marin Cilic in the next round after his 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Belgian player Raphael Collignon earlier today.

Baez, after an impressive start to the year, had not played a tournament in the three-week gap between the French Open and Wimbledon.

This may have suggested to his lack of sharpness on the court, particularly with his preference of clay surfaces.

Jack Draper said he would have liked to play longer in his first-round match

Despite this, it still remained a dominant and encouraging performance from the Briton, who has already equalled his best at the tournament by reaching the second round.

Elsewhere, no 3 ranked Alexander Zverev suffered a shock defeat to Arthur Rinderknech to mark the fourth player in the top-10 ranks to already be knocked out of the tournament in the men's.

Alexander Bublik also lost in a shock result against Jaume Munar.

The Kazakh player beat Draper in the quarter-finals of the French Open last month, but represents another player the 23-year-old will be happy to see exit the tournament.
