The Spaniard lost in three sets on Tuesday night in a major tournament upset

Carlos Alcaraz was seen arguing with his coach during his Paris Masters defeat to Cameron Norrie on Tuesday night - and the world No 1 has now opened up on the incident following his shock loss in the French capital.

The 22-year-old had gone into the showdown as the favourite to reign supreme given his terrific form in 2025.

But Alcaraz, despite winning the first set, was surprisingly eliminated from the competition with Norrie winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to book his place in the round of 16.

It was a memorable evening for the Briton, who has now won three of his eight matches against Alcaraz.

But, for the Spaniard, it was a night to forget.

As he crashed to defeat, Alcaraz could be seen exchanging angry words with his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero. When quizzed on the conversation post-match, he insisted it was due to differing opinions on what strategy to utilise.

"I showed a wrong game strategy for this type of slow court," he said.

"Things didn't work out for me. It's one of the worst matches of the year in terms of feelings.

"In Miami it was a physical issue, here it was different. I didn't feel the ball well at any moment."

Alcaraz's defeat was a surprise.

He has been sensational throughout the season, claiming Grand Slam titles such as the French Open and US Open - while also reaching the final of Wimbledon.

And the tennis star admitted he was surprised by his flat display, adding: "I don't know [why I found the match so difficult].

"I trained a lot here. I felt very good. I felt really great. I was moving well on the court. I felt the ball.

"My ideas were very clear, as were my goals. But today, even in the first set, although I won it, I felt like I could do much better than I had.

"I tried to improve in the second set. It was the opposite: I played even worse."

Alcaraz also revealed he was looking forward to going back home in order to rest and recover, with the end of the season rapidly approaching.

Norrie, meanwhile, was understandably jubilant.

"This is massive, so big for me. I have been coming back with my injury," he told Sky Sports.

"Last year I lost in the first round of qualifiers, so I just tried to enjoy my tennis the second half of the year, and I was able to do that and to get a win like this.

"It is the biggest win of my career and my first win over a world No 1 and probably the most confident player in the world right now.

"I was just so pleased with the way I did it, having a lot of chances and having to keep pushing and keep going for more and I was able to stay tough and get the win, so I am really pleased."
Whether Norrie can now go all the way remains to be seen.
