The 32-year-old won't be playing for the rest of the tournament

Scotland star Dave Cherry has revealed he's 'hugely disappointed' after being forced to withdraw from the Rugby World Cup.

The hooker hit his head earlier in the week while walking down some stairs.

Cherry sustained a concussion and has now been forced to withdraw from the squad, with Stuart McInally replacing him.

"I'm hugely disappointed to be leaving the squad with concussion," he said.

"I've loved my time in camp over the summer and gaining my first World Cup cap on Sunday against South Africa.

"I want to wish the team all the best for the remainder of the competition."

Cherry, according to the Daily Mail, had a few drinks at a family BBQ during the team's day off.

However, he was 'not drunk'. It's also claimed he was taken to hospital and held overnight as a precaution.

The Scotland star is set to remain with the team until he is ready to go home.

He came off the bench over the weekend as Scotland lost 18-3 to South Africa on Sunday.

McInally is a good replacement for Cherry, however, due to his vast experience.

The 33-year-old was already on standby for the competition and is already in France, having flown out due to a concussion sustained by Ewan Ashman.

Ashman is, however, due to return next week.

Scotland are next in action against Tonga on Sunday as they look to boost their chances of reaching the knockout stages of the tournament.

Head coach Gregor Townsend was livid after his side's defeat to South Africa, calling out the decision not to dismiss Jesse Kriel with just 57 seconds on the clock.

He said: "I saw it on the television from two screens away and it did look like it was a head-on-head collision.

"And I was expecting the TMO to come in to make the referee aware of that.

"Who knows if it had been a red card? We had a red card on Saturday and it didn’t help or change the game in terms of Argentina’s favour against England, so who knows?

"But it is inconsistency over what is a red card, a yellow card or a penalty that I am frustrated by."

And Townsend also vented his fury that action wasn't taken after South Africa winger Arendse appeared to punch Finn Russell in the ribs.

"That decision frustrated me, too," he added.

"It was bad as it did look like Finn was coming off.

"He had a rib injury which seemed like it was going to stop him from continuing but he dug deep and fought really hard.
