Sky Sports were twice forced to apologise after Robert MacIntyre’s frustrations boiled over during the second round of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
The 29-year-old Scot, currently ranked World No 9, endured a difficult day on the West Course as he battled to stay on the right side of the projected cut line.
His emotions spilled over on the par-five 12th hole, where microphones picked up two foul-mouthed outbursts that left the broadcaster scrambling to apologise to viewers.
MacIntyre had given himself an ideal chance to attack the green after a perfect drive down the fairway left him 218 yards from the pin.

But instead of setting up an eagle putt, he mishit his iron approach, watching in frustration as the ball veered into a greenside bunker.
“What a waste. You cannot f*****g hit it,” MacIntyre was heard shouting, prompting commentator Alison Whitaker to quickly step in with an on-air apology: “Apologies for the language — it’s not a great spot, to be fair.”
The Scot recovered well from the sand, splashing out to within birdie range, but his frustrations deepened when his putt stopped agonisingly short — no more than eight inches from the cup.

That near miss sparked another audible expletive, forcing analyst David Howell to offer a second apology to viewers: “Apologies for the adult language from MacIntyre, forgetting there are microphones around once again.”
Despite his frustrations, MacIntyre carded a par on the hole and went on to finish the round one-under-par, leaving him two-under for the tournament.

With the cut projected at two-under, he faces an anxious wait to see if he will qualify for the weekend’s play.
MacIntyre, a two-time PGA Tour winner, has been one of Europe’s most consistent performers this season, recording six top-10 finishes and 11 top-25s, including a runner-up finish at the US Open.
He is among the six automatic qualifiers for Team Europe at this month’s Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, where Luke Donald will be hoping his man can rediscover top form.
The Scot has spoken openly about the pressure of competing in the BMW PGA Championship, a flagship event on the DP World Tour calendar and a crucial tune-up ahead of the Ryder Cup.

With several European team-mates — including Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland, and Ludvig Åberg — in contention at Wentworth, MacIntyre will be eager to regain momentum heading into the season’s biggest team event.
For now, his colourful language may have made headlines, but MacIntyre will hope the weekend is remembered for a charge up the leaderboard rather than for Sky Sports issuing repeated apologies.
