The former Manchester United legend has not held back

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has delivered a damning verdict on current manager Ruben Amorim, confessing he harbours "no faith" in the Portuguese coach's capacity to restore the club's fortunes.

The Red Devils have managed merely two Premier League victories this campaign, defeating promoted Burnley and a depleted Chelsea side playing with ten men.

Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show following Saturday's defeat to Brentford, the former striker expressed his lack of confidence in any potential turnaround under the 40-year-old manager.

"I honestly hope he can turn it round and he does. But if you're saying to me, 'do you believe he will?', then, after everything I've seen, honestly, I've got no faith in it," Rooney stated.

The club's struggles extend beyond tactical issues, with Rooney directing harsh criticism towards the current squad's mentality and commitment.

"I don't see players fighting, I don't see character, I don't see a desire to win, I don't see ability, I don't see match winners, nothing that gets me off my feet," he declared.

The former England captain suggested numerous players are failing to meet the standards expected at Old Trafford.

"I'm seeing players, they don't deserve to wear the shirt, and it hurts. When you have played for the club and care about it, this is not acceptable what is going on," Rooney explained.

He acknowledged that responsibility extends beyond management, emphasising that the players themselves must shoulder significant blame for the team's dire performances.

Rooney's critique extended to the club's hierarchy, questioning the direction under both the Glazer family and Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Ineos ownership.

The former striker demanded clarity from the owners about Manchester United's future trajectory, warning that supporters are currently "sitting here waiting for it to crumble."

"The soul has gone from the club. It needs a new engine, a new lease of life. It needs something to kickstart that football club," Rooney asserted.

"We're seeing staff members getting sacked after 20, 30 years who are very important people to that football club," he noted, suggesting these changes have stripped away the club's identity.

Despite the mounting criticism, Amorim maintained his self-belief when questioned after the Brentford defeat, insisting he remains unconcerned about his position.

"I am always comfortable with the job. I am not concerned, it is not my decision," the manager stated at the Gtech Stadium.

The Portuguese coach acknowledged the team's inconsistent performances but remained adamant about his approach, having previously declared that "not even the Pope" could persuade him to alter his tactical philosophy.

"Sometimes you see one team that performs really well and you see improvements. And then sometimes you have some games that you don't see that improvement," Amorim admitted.

Daily Mail Sport has confirmed that Ratcliffe continues to support the manager, believing Amorim requires additional time to integrate his summer acquisitions following expenditure exceeding £214million.
