All three clubs will be dreaming of glory

There will be no English teams in the Champions League final this year. When it comes to other European competitions, however, it's a different story entirely.

Manchester United and Chelsea aren't the teams they used to be. Certainly, they're a far cry from the days when Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho were going head to head for the biggest trophies on offer.

But they, along with Tottenham, could yet end the campaign with silverware to their name following Thursday night's European action.

Let's start with Spurs. Ange Postecoglou's side have endured a season to forget, lurching from one crisis to another.

They went into their clash with Bodo/Glimt in Norway 3-1 up from the first leg, having dominated the majority of the proceedings in north London.

And goals from Dominic Solanke and Pedro Porro were enough for Tottenham to make the final of the Europa League in Norway.

Postecoglou, a few months ago, insisted he always wins things in his second season. Maybe, just maybe, he's a prophet after all.

Tottenham haven't won a trophy since 2008. Juande Ramos was the manager back then, with Dimitar Berbatov and Jonathan Woodgate scoring against Chelsea in the final of the EFL Cup.

Plenty has changed since then. Spurs rose under Mauricio Pochettino but have sunk in the years that have followed under the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

Postecoglou, however, will be daring to dream. Whether victory in the Europa League final is enough to save his job, however, remains to be seen.

They will face Manchester United in the final. What version of Ruben Amorim's outfit they'll go up against remains to be seen.

The fallen giants went into their showdown with Athletic Bilbao 3-0 up from the first leg, having ran riot in Spain with an uncharacteristically good display.

They had to work for it on Thursday at Old Trafford, however. Mikel Jauregizar's stunning strike for the visitors threatened to cause an upset early on, with the Spaniard silencing the home crowd.

But then came the Mason Mount show. The former Chelsea star netted twice, with Casemiro and Rasmus Hojlund also on target, to make the Europa League final with a 4-1 victory.

Mount has had his critics since his arrival from the Blues in 2023. This, though, was his finest hour - with his second goal set to live long in the memory after a sublime effort from near the halfway line.

United will need to be better than this. There's still a chance, however, that they'll be playing Champions League football next term. For Ruben Amorim, and his higher-ups, there's light at the end of the tunnel.

As for Chelsea, the UEFA Conference League is still getting off the ground on these shores. The Blues, ideally, would be going for bigger and better prizes than that.

There was never going to be an upset at Stamford Bridge. Leading 5-1 from the first leg, Enzo Maresca's side sealed their own path to a European final with a 1-0 win on Thursday.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored the only goal of the game, with the 26-year-old striking in the 38th minute to propel his side into the UEFA Conference League final.

It's a night to remember for English football. Fans of all three sides will now be hoping they can go all the way.
