Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll have been planning this decision for some time

Rory McIlroy is set to move into his new family home in Surrey next month following the US Open.

The Northern Irish golf star, who recently completed the career grand slam with his dramatic Masters victory at Augusta, will relocate to the exclusive Wentworth estate with his wife Erica and daughter Poppy.

The green jacket will be taking up residence in Britain from June, marking a significant homecoming for one of our sport's greatest talents.

The couple purchased the plot in the exclusive Wentworth estate last year.

They were drawn to the location due to their fondness for London and the cooler summer climate.

The McIlroys will maintain their Southern Florida property—a mansion purchased from Ernie Els in 2017—which will remain their base whilst he is playing.

There remains a possibility the family could make the UK switch permanent, tax implications permitting.

McIlroy revealed that he and Erica visited their new Surrey home immediately after his Masters triumph.

"Straight after Augusta we travelled over to see the house as it was going through the finishing touches," McIlroy told Telegraph Sport.

The property was nearly ready for occupation during their visit.

"It was fun to see and we could have stayed in it, but we wanted to get over to Holywood," he added, referring to his hometown in Belfast.

McIlroy chose to keep his homecoming celebrations private after achieving golfing immortality.

"It was amazing going home, but I didn't want any fanfare," he explained.

The emotional reunion with his parents was particularly poignant.

"With my dad, I never get that emotional but it was great to see him. Then when I saw my mom – yeah, we were both a mess for a few minutes."

He reflected: "As time goes on and I'm getting older, I realise that they're not going to be around forever."

McIlroy is currently competing in the $20million Truist Championship, his first individual event since Augusta.

He participated in the PGA Tour pairs event in Zurich a fortnight ago with Shane Lowry.

The world No 2 is defending champion, though this year's tournament is not at Quail Hollow.

With his career grand slam complete, McIlroy acknowledges he'll feel less pressure at upcoming majors.

"I won't be on edge as I have been for the last few years," he said.

On Wednesday, McIlroy was congratulated by Jordan Spieth on his career grand slam achievement.

McIlroy responded with encouragement: "It'll be your turn next week," referring to Spieth needing only the US PGA to join the elite club.

"What, at the Rory McIlroy Country Club?" Spieth quipped, acknowledging McIlroy's stellar record at Quail Hollow.

McIlroy now approaches tournaments with renewed confidence, stating: "Look, the worst I felt on Sunday at Augusta was probably when I held the birdie putt on the 10th to go four ahead."
