Liverpool part-owner LeBron James has expressed his horror on social media at the tragic scenes that unfolded during Liverpool’s title parade on Monday evening.

Celebration turned to disaster on Water Street, Liverpool, after a black SUV ploughed through dozens of Liverpool fans who were out to enjoy their side’s Premier League win this season.

Merseyside Police confirmed a 53-year-old white male from the Liverpool area was arrested at the scene.

A total of 47 people, including four children, were injured at the incident, with 27 being hospitalised.

Liverpool City Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram says there are "still four people who are very, very ill in hospital," one of which being a child.

"We are hoping, of course, that they pull through," he continued.

James, who secured a two per cent stake in Liverpool initially in 2011, took to social media platform X to express his shock at the incident.

After striking up a partnership with Liverpool majority-owners Fenway Sports Group, the group became the basketball icon’s chief marketing agency in exchange for a two per cent stake in Liverpool FC.

In 2021, the 40-year-old exchanged his two per cent stake in the club for a one per cent stake in Fenway Sports Group, who own franchises such as the Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Penguins in the United States, along with Liverpool.
