The Liverpool legend has offered his well wishes to everyone involved

Jamie Carragher has taken to social media after a 'devastating' incident at Liverpool's title parade where a car collided with a number of people during the club's title parade.

Merseyside Police have told GB News that a 53-year-old white male was arrested after the incident.


The incident took place earlier today as Liverpool were celebrating winning the Premier League, during which a car has collided with multiple pedestrians.

Jamie Carragher has taken to X to offer his well wishes to all involved: "Devastating end to the day.......just pray everyone is okay"

Liverpool and the Premier League have both issued statements.

"Everyone at the Premier League is shocked by the appalling events in Liverpool this evening, and our heartfelt thoughts go out to all those injured and affected.

"We have been in contact with Liverpool FC and have offered our full support following this serious incident."

Earlier today, Carragher had posted a photo of Liverpool's title winning parade with the caption, "What a football club!, with an image of thousands of fans lining the street in celebration.

Eyewitnesses told GB News Liverpool Lime Street station has been shut and "[there were] tonnes of police and ambulance came rushing in, it was mad".

A spokesman from Merseyside Police said: "We are currently dealing with reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city centre.

"We were contacted at just after 6pm today, Monday, May 26, following reports a car had been in collision with a number of pedestrians on Water Street.

"The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained. Emergency services are currently on the scene. We will issue more updates as we have them."

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS FROM LIVERPOOL:


An eyewitness told GB News: "I saw a car ram through people and pedestrians then started banging on the car like 'what are you doing?'

"Then the driver reversed and sped up forward and mowed down more people as pedestrians, police and ambulances started chasing after the car.

"It happened five feet away from me, I’m so grateful I managed to avoid it, terrifying to think what could have happened."
