Police are “working on the theory” that a car ploughing into a crowd of people during Liverpool’s Premier League victory parade was deliberate.
That was the update provided by GB News’s Home and Security Editor Mark White on GB News.
Merseyside Police have arrested a 53-year-old man after emergency services rushed to the scene to take several casualties away via ambulance.
“Authorities are working on the theory that this may well have been deliberate, that this car was driven deliberately at those pedestrians”, said Mark White.

“The Prime Minister is being kept informed of events unfolding in Liverpool. You don’t get messages like that for a run of the mill traffic accident.
“There’s a number of casualties and it has happened at a crowded event - all of these factors have raised the concerns authorities have.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
“We’ve seen in the past, in this country and beyond, crowded events have been targeted for attack, they’ve been targeted because of the crowded and vulnerable nature of large groups together.
“We’ve not had official confirmation one way or the other, but sources are telling me tonight they are now working on the theory this may have been a deliberate act.
“That would seem to be born out by the eyewitness report of people banging on this vehicle trying to get this driver to stop.”
He continued: “We are seeing a very significant emergency services response.
“They are well versed in rehearsing these mass casualty events. North West Ambulance Service, multiple ambulance resources and paramedics on-hand to assist.
“Given this was Liverpool’s parade, there were many thousands on the streets.”
Footage shows a black SUV entering a cordoned-off road before hitting multiple people and forcing its way into the crowd, according to reports from the scene.
The collision happened just after 6pm today, Monday 26 May, when the black SUV entered Water Street which had been cordoned off for the celebrations. According to eyewitness accounts, the vehicle hit multiple people before coming to a stop.
Merseyside Police confirmed the incident in a statement, saying: "We are currently dealing with reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city centre.
"We were contacted at just after 6 pm today, Monday 26 May, following reports a car had been in collision with a number of pedestrians on Water Street. The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained."
The North West Ambulance Service also responded to the emergency, stating they were "supporting an incident in Liverpool city centre" and "working with other members of the emergency services" to ensure people receive medical help as quickly as possible.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is ongoing.
