Kobbie Mainoo's sister Ama appeared to express the family's delight at Ruben Amorim's departure from Manchester United through a pointed social media post on Monday.

Shortly after the club confirmed the Portuguese manager's exit following 14 months in charge, Ama shared an Instagram story featuring American rapper Yung Miami sporting a broad smile.

The image seemed to convey the Mainoo family's satisfaction with the decision to dismiss Amorim, whose tenure saw the 20-year-old midfielder marginalised despite his previous emergence as one of United's most promising talents.

The midfielder himself has not publicly commented on his former manager's sacking, which followed a dismal record of 19 defeats from 47 Premier League matches.

Mainoo's frustration under Amorim stemmed from being restricted to substitute appearances throughout the current campaign, with all 11 of his Premier League outings coming from the bench.

This represented a dramatic fall from grace for the Stockport-born talent who had established himself as a key figure during the 2023-24 season under Erik ten Hag.

His meteoric rise culminated in scoring the winning goal against Manchester City in last year's FA Cup final at just 19 years old.

Weeks later, he became a central part of Gareth Southgate's England squad, starting the Euro 2024 final in Germany.

Amorim's preference for deploying captain Bruno Fernandes in a deeper midfield role effectively blocked Mainoo from his natural position.

The family's discontent had already spilled into public view last month when Mainoo's half-brother Jordan Mainoo-Hames attended Old Trafford wearing a T-shirt bearing the slogan "Free Kobbie Mainoo".

Amorim responded to the protest by criticising what he perceived as a culture of entitlement among United's younger players.

The manager said: "I think it is the feeling of entitlement that we have in our club."

He added: "Sometimes strong words is not bad words. Sometimes difficult moments is not a bad thing for the kids.

"It was not Kobbie who wore the T-shirt. He is not going to start because of the T-shirt, or go to the bench because of it.

"He is going to play if he is the right player to play."

Despite limiting Mainoo's opportunities, Amorim had insisted the midfielder would not be permitted to leave on loan during the January transfer window, describing him as "the future of Manchester United".

Napoli had emerged as frontrunners to secure a temporary deal for the England international, whose lack of minutes has seen him overlooked by national team boss Thomas Tuchel ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

A calf injury sustained before last month's defeat to Aston Villa has kept Mainoo sidelined from recent matchday squads entirely.

However, the appointment of Under-18s head coach Darren Fletcher as interim manager may signal brighter days ahead.

His expected 4-3-3 formation potentially offers the young midfielder greater opportunities.
