Former England international Kieran Trippier has confirmed his marriage to Charlotte ended more than a year ago, breaking his silence following recent controversy.
The Newcastle United defender posted on Instagram: "I have never commented on my private life but the tabloids seem to want to continue Writing force narratives I feel I have no choice but to confirm publicly that myself and Charlotte separated over a year ago."
He added: "I have not commented previously as it is a private matter and we want to protect to our children."
The 34-year-old's statement follows recent reports that Charlotte was seeking legal advice regarding divorce proceedings.

The couple wed in 2016 and share three children together.
Sources indicate they attempted to conceal their separation to shield their children from potential distress.
The announcement follows days after Trippier was photographed enjoying Ibiza this week.
The footballer was seen at Ushuaia club alongside reality TV personality Chloe Ferry and her companions, including Love Island contestant Jess Harding.

The pair's efforts to maintain privacy around their separation appear to have been undermined by mounting speculation in recent months.
Signs of marital discord emerged during last summer's European Championships in Germany, when Charlotte notably unfollowed her husband on Instagram following England's final group match.

Unlike other partners of England players, she chose not to travel to Germany for the tournament.
She subsequently shared a cryptic social media post stating: "Sooner or later you get over the s**t you swore you'd never get over and it's the best feeling in the world."
Another post featured the caption "the sun is shining, happy Monday", accompanying a video of Charlotte in her car listening to music whilst collecting her children from school.

Previous incidents had hinted at relationship difficulties, including footage from 2023 showing Trippier with a blonde woman at a Newcastle karaoke bar during Champions League qualification celebrations.
In May 2024, he was photographed with 28-year-old call centre employee Frankie Carmichael at another Newcastle venue, where he was seen lifting her around his waist.
Charlotte previously spoke openly about her struggles during their time in Spain when Trippier played for Atletico Madrid, revealing: "I was on my own for long. I felt so lonely... about four months in, I was saying, 'I don't know if I can stay here, Kieran, I feel depressed. I've got no family over here, I've got no friends here.'"
