It is believed the bag was 'misplaced' by on-duty officers

A former Minister has condemned the Mayor's armed guards after his team abandoned a bag filled with guns outside the Mayor's south London home.

Joining the People's Channel, ex-Tory MP Kevin Foster laid into the "absolutely terrible" fiasco, condemning the possible security breach.

The holdall was discovered at around 9.30pm on Tuesday - the same night feral youths were running riot in Clapham - and contained an MP5 carbine, a Glock pistol, a Taser and ammunition.

A pregnant woman first spotted the bag and kicked it to investigate before alerting her partner, Jordan Griffiths, who took it inside.

Discussing the shocking ordeal, Kevin Foster told GB News: "It's a hugely concerning incident. The procedures for handling guns and firearms for both the police and the military are very extensive.

"The idea that you're supposed to go know where they are at all times... So you had one that they were just being carried around in a bag - and you could just sort of put on the floor as you opened the door is something in itself.

"And the second, the fact that actually was a member of the public who noticed this - it wasn't something that the police officers got inside and thought 'hang on. Are we missing something?'

"It could have been extremely dangerous because, of course, this is something that's supposed to be protecting, so leaving a bag of guns outside the house isn't the best way of doing that.

"And second, because if the bag was just taken away, you could easily have found those ending up being used in criminal matters, including potential murders, given the problem London has with gun crimes.

"So there obviously would need to be quite a serious investigation into what went wrong, what happened. But well done to the member of the public who found them for doing absolutely the right thing.

"But how on earth they got there? That's a huge issue."

He added the Home Office would be "very worried" because preventing guns from being allowed into the UK would come into play with concerns surrounding proxy attacks by Iran.

Recounting the remarkable event, Jordan Griffiths, a scaffolder, told The Sun: "My partner saw the bag sitting in the road by the kerbside and became suspicious.

"She went over to it and kicked it to see what it might be. But it was really heavy and didn't move."

He added: "It was lucky one of the guns inside didn't go off or else she and our baby due next month could have been shot and killed."

Mr Griffiths said he first believed the bag actually contained coins - but was soon proved wrong.

He added: "I went out to have a look and picked up the bag and it was really heavy. I took it upstairs and put it on my bed and opened the bag up. I could not believe my eyes.

"There was a handgun in the front pocket and a submachine gun in the main part of the bag.

"There was also a Taser in there and in the back of the bag there was another pocket which felt like it was full of bullets."

Mr Griffiths added he was told the weapons had been left by one of the Mayor’s protection officers.

The Met Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards has launched an investigation. All five officers involved have been removed from frontline duties.

A force spokesman said: "At around 9.40pm, a member of the public called police after finding a bag containing Met-issued firearms and a Taser on a street in South London.

"Within seven minutes of the call, officers arrived at the scene and safely recovered the items.

"We are urgently reviewing the circumstances of this incident and recognise the concern it may cause.

"At this stage, it is believed the bag was misplaced by on-duty officers a short time before the member of the public located it."
