The Liverpool star died in a tragic car accident last week

Liverpool have announced the tributes that will be played to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva during their first pre-season friendly against Preston North End on Sunday.

The club was struck with the loss of their star forward last Thursday, as it was revealed the Portuguese star was in his car when a tyre burst, sending the car into a fiery crash in the north of Spain.

Several Liverpool players and members of the club's board attended the funeral in Jota’s hometown of Gondomar on Saturday.

Players were allowed a delayed return to pre-season training, giving them time to mourn the loss. However, the Reds now prepare for their first game of the new pre-season.

The friendly will begin with a rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone, whilst representatives from Preston will lay a wreath in front of the away stand.

The fans and players will then observe a minute’s silence in honour of the two brothers, with tributes being shown on screens around the ground.

The players will also wear black armbands when they face off, with the hosts also creating a "commemorative edition" of the matchday programme.

The game will be available to view on free-to-view television when play kicks off at 2.40 pm on Sunday. Liverpool stars returned to training on Tuesday, with Mohamed Salah, Jeremie Frimpong, Joe Gomez, and Andy Robertson all captured arriving for the pre-season.

Robertson took to social media and penned his own personal message to Jota. In the emotional statement, he called the forward “a good guy. The best. So genuine. Just normal and real”.

The Scotsman had attended Jota’s wedding less than two weeks before the tragic accident took him from his wife and three children.

In his post on Instagram, he continued to show how much he cared for his teammate: “For the team and the Club, we’ll try to cope with this together… however long that takes. For me, I want to talk about my mate. My buddy. The bloke I loved and will miss like crazy. I could talk about him as a player for hours, but none of that feels like it matters right now.”

“It’s the man. The person. He was such a good guy. The best. So genuine. Just normal and real. Full of love for the people he cared about. Full of fun. He was the most British foreign player I’ve ever met. We used to joke he was really Irish… I’d try to claim him as Scottish, obviously. I even called him Diogo MacJota.”
