The promoter has delivered a damning reaction to the news that the fight will be professional

Frank Warren insists Mike Tyson 'shouldn't be fighting' and says the decision to make his bout against Jake Paul professional is 'ridiculous'.

Warren admits he is a fan of Paul and can see the public attraction but does not think 57-year-old Tyson should enter the ring at his age.

News emerged on Monday that the fight, which will take place on July 20 in Texas, won't be an exhibition and has been given professional status.

That means it will go onto the official records of both Paul and Tyson, with the latter fighting professionally for the first time since 2005.

The bout will have a maximum of eight two-minute rounds and the fighters will wear 14oz gloves instead of the usual 10oz.

Head guards will not be used but knockouts will be allowed. Paul made the announcement on X on Monday.

He wrote: "Mike Tyson wanted it to be a pro fight. Netflix wanted it to be a pro fight. So I agreed to make it a pro fight. Winner takes all."

Former YouTube star Paul has fought 10 times professionally, with his only blemish being a defeat to Tommy Fury.

The fight is being promoted by Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) and Warren can see the attraction for everyone involved.

But he insists there is no way that Tyson should be fighting professionally, with his 58th birthday landing three weeks before the bout.

Tyson Fury's promoter told talkSPORT: "I'm a big fan of Jake Paul as a promoter and his business partner Nakissa [Bidarian].

"They're very smart operators and they obviously see this fight will generate public interest and obviously money.

"But let's get it right, Mike Tyson [will be] 58 years of age and he shouldn't be fighting. It's as simple as that.

"If it was an exhibition, you'd get half away with that, but the fact that Texas has licenced the 58-year-old to fight...

"What does anybody need to say about that? Anyone with an ounce of brains knows that it is ridiculous...

"Let's get it right, you can be on a motorway stuck in a traffic jam and you get to the end of it and all it is is people who have stopped to look at a crash and that's what this is. And that's what it is.

"Texas, you can't take them serious. I promoted in Texas many, many years ago. It's crazy.

"What will happen for one round is you're going to get vintage Mike Tyson, he'll come out throwing bombs for one round and then it'll be a 58-year-old guy in the ring with a younger fella.

"We know he can punch, he's a big puncher. It is what it is. People will watch it."

Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano 2 will be the co-main event on the event which will be streamed on Netflix.

MVP co-founder Bidarian is pleased to have received granted professional status.

He said: "Mike Tyson and Jake Paul signed on to fight each other with the desire to do so in a sanctioned professional fight that would have a definitive outcome.

"Over the past six weeks, MVP has worked with its partners to satisfy the requirements of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR) to sanction Paul Vs Tyson and we are grateful that we have gotten to this point.

"MVP has championed fighter choice since its inception, including advocating for women’s boxing to be contested with 2 or 3 minute rounds based on the particular fight matchup."
