Sophie, 60, has owned the designer wedges since 2019

The Duchess of Edinburgh experienced an awkward moment at the Royal Windsor Flower Show when her footwear nearly caused a mishap during a formal greeting with King Charles.

Sophie, 60, was attempting to curtsy to her brother-in-law when she almost lost her shoe, having bent too low during the respectful gesture.

The incident occurred as the duchess attended the annual summer garden event, where she had been showcasing British fashion in a vibrant outfit.

Despite her usual preference for practical clothing choices, her footwear proved less functional than anticipated on this occasion.

The King quickly responded to prevent any further embarrassment, catching Sophie's arms to steady her as she struggled with the curtsy.

The monarch's swift intervention helped the duchess regain her balance.

The royal had been wearing Penelope Chilvers Colina style wedges, a favoured brand amongst royal women.

The Duchess of Edinburgh was first spotted wearing the footwear in 2019. Unfortunately for royal fans, these wedges are no longer in stock.

Their description said: "Strikingly simple summer wedge espadrille in matte leather. Wear this elegant all-rounder style throughout the season as your go-to style.

"This vintage-shaped wedge is made according to traditional methods with hand-finished jute stitching throughout.

"An elegant, easy style for the first days of summer all the way through to autumn."

The duchess paired the shoes with a blue floral midi dress from ME + EM for the event, featuring a bluebell print.

Sophie first wore this stunning gown in 2023 during a tour to Ethiopia.

She paired the dress with a new £524 navy corduroy blazer from Frame, which added structure to her summer garden party ensemble.

The mother-of-two accessorised with two rings from Monica Vinader - one costing £70 and another selling for £80.

Sophie's overall look demonstrated her support for British fashion, with the vibrant dress proving perfect for the outdoor royal engagement.
