Princess Eugenie forms alliance with Prince William amid Royal Family shift

The 42-year-old heir to the throne and the 35-year-old Princess of York have found common ground in their commitment to preserving the world's oceans.

The cousins' strengthened relationship has become increasingly visible at royal events. Eugenie attended a Buckingham Palace Garden Party with William last month and shared a lighthearted moment with him at Ascot last year.

This growing closeness contrasts sharply with Eugenie's relationship with Prince Harry, which is thought to have cooled.

A source previously told the Sun: "Eugenie has been supportive of Harry and Meghan for years and was right there at the beginning of their relationship - but it has now soured."

This strengthening bond between William and Eugenie marks a notable shift in Royal Family dynamics, particularly given her previously close relationship with the Duke of Sussex.

Prince William demonstrated his commitment to marine conservation on Sunday when he addressed the Blue Economy and Finance Forum in Monaco.

Speaking in French, the Prince of Wales said: "We come together today united by our deep connection to the ocean and our concern for its safety.

For many of us, it is a place where some of our happiest memories are made, where we have explored the wonders of the natural world, and we have all relied on its great abundance for our food and livelihoods."

He continued: "And yet, all too often, it can feel distant and disconnected from our everyday lives, allowing us to forget just how vital it is. The truth is that healthy oceans are essential to all life on earth."

Princess Eugenie has also established herself as a prominent advocate for ocean conservation through multiple initiatives.

In May, she became a Global Ambassador for Thirty Six For Coral, an art exhibition and auction supporting coral reef conservation.

She also serves as an ambassador for Blue Marine Foundation, which works to restore ocean health and protect marine habitats.

The Princess credits her son August with strengthening her environmental commitment. "Since August came into my life, it's positively impacted my desire to do more," she told Hello!.

"Priorities change when you have children; you want to do everything you can for them - and for your grandchildren."

Eugenie's environmental dedication extends to her personal life, having organised a plastic-free wedding to Jack Brooksbank in 2018.

"My whole house is anti-plastic now, and Jack and I want our wedding to be like that as well," she told British Vogue at the time.
