Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, was seen embracing King Charles as they stepped out together at the opening of the 118th Royal Windsor Flower Show.
The 60-year-old wife of Prince Edward, Charles’ brother, stood in for the monarch at the opening of the event at The York Club, Windsor Great Park on Saturday before later meeting up.
The Royal Windsor Flower show is a one-day celebration of gardening, nature, food and traditional crafts that was founded by Queen Victoria in 1892.
Since it has seen the patronage of numerous reigning monarchs, including King Charles and his late mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II.

This year’s show is centred around the theme “Patterns in Nature” and was inspired by Charles’s 2010 book, Harmony: A New Way Of Looking At Our World.
Sophie was on hand in the morning to open the event on behalf of King Charles, cutting an orange ribbon to mark the festivities beginning.
She was joined by celebrity horticulturalist and honorary president of the Royal Windsor Rose & Horticultural Society Alan Titchmarsh for the ribbon cutting ceremony.
The Duchess of Edinburgh wore a blue floral pattern dress with a black blazer for the event.

Later at the event, she was joined by the King.
Upon their meeting, Sophie was seen to curtsy before she embraced her and the kissed cheek to cheek.
Titchmarsh also helped guide the king around the event where he was seen smelling flowers and greeting guests.

The dual engagement immediately followed a similar appearance between Sophie and Prince William.
William and Sophie attended the Royal Cornwall Show on Friday, their first appearance together in two years.
Their Royal Highnesses attended the agricultural showcase in their capacities as patrons of farming organisations.
Sophie and William began their visit together at the Royal Cornwall Food and Farming Pavilion, where they viewed displays from numerous artisan food and drink producers from across the county.

In the pavilion, they were photographed downing pints of cider during their tasting session.
The pair also sampled gin, with the Prince of Wales jokingly holding his neck after tasting the strong spirit.
After their joint engagement, the two royals split to undertake individual visits to different areas of the sprawling showground.
Before departing, both their Royal Highnesses signed the Royal Cornwall Show visitor book.
This marks the Duchess of Edinburgh's first visit to the show since 2014.
The Royal Cornwall Show was established in 1793 by The Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association, which aims to promote and support the improvement of agriculture and associated industries.
