GB News has launched a brand new podcast called The Royal Record

  • Princesses Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are not working royals
  • The Princesses of York did not attend Prince Harry's Invictus Games event
  • They joined Prince William for his garden party at Buckingham Palace this week

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie displayed "royal unity" alongside Prince William just weeks after "snubbing" Prince Harry, according to the Digital Royal Editor at GB News.

The Princesses of York attended a Buckingham Palace garden party hosted by the Prince of Wales, just two weeks after missing the Duke of Sussex's Invictus Games service.

GB News' Royal Correspondent Cameron Walker and the Royal Editor of GBNews.com, Svar Nanan-Sen, sat down for the first episode of The Royal Record podcast, where they discussed Beatrice and Eugenie's recent outing.

Cameron said: "Despite the rain, I think the public who had been invited were really happy to see that younger generation of royals.

"It's something which has been quite rare recently because the likes of Princess Beatrice, Eugenie, and Zara are not on the balcony anymore of Buckingham Palace, whereas in times gone by they would have been before 2018.

"We've talked a lot about this slimmed-down monarchy. So I asked the question to somebody close to William, 'Is this a situation where Prince William could call upon this younger generation of royals to carry out more public duties in the future?'

"Because we've got a very ageing working population of royals at the moment with the Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra in their 80s, approaching 90. The Duke of Gloucester turns 80 this year.

"So are we going to see that? And I was categorically told, 'Absolutely not. This is just Prince William inviting them to the garden party It's something that the late Queen Elizabeth II did on a number of occasions.'

"And that is true. We did see the likes of Zara, Princess Beatrice and Eugenie at garden parties in the past. It's just not happened for a few years."

Svar added: "Yes and it's not an indication that they will become working royals, but something that I did take away from it is that Eugenie and Beatrice, in particular, we know how close they are to Prince Harry.

"Earlier this month, they both chose not to attend Prince Harry's Invictus event at St Paul's Cathedral. It felt like a real statement that Beatrice and Eugenie had chosen to go to Prince William's garden party so soon after snubbing Harry's event.

"Is this now the younger generation of the Royal Family coming together publicly and putting on a united front?

"The contrasting appearance of the younger generation flocking to this Buckingham Palace garden party whilst Prince Harry was left alone at St Paul's Cathedral with no working members of the Royal Family, he was only joined by Diana's side of the family, was just something that really struck me."

Cameron continued: "Yes, it is a really interesting point, actually, and I thought that ahead of the Invictus service at St Paul's with Prince Harry, I thought if any members of the Royal Family are going to turn up, it is going to be Princess Eugenie or Beatrice, particularly Eugenie, because we know they are, we think, still quite close.

"I mean, there's a picture of her, her husband Jack Brooksbank and Harry and Meghan at a costume party in North America before it was announced that Harry and Meghan were in a relationship.

"As you say, it was Charles Spencer and Prince Harry's aunt as well, so Prince Diana's siblings. Yes the image of Prince William with his cousins, Zara, Eugenie, Beatrice and their spouses, I think, did speak volumes.

"Also it was nice in the absence of the Princess of Wales, who clearly, if she wasn't going through cancer treatment, would have been at that garden party.

"It was nice to see that younger generation supporting the future King because at some point, Prince William is going to take the top job, and it's going to be that generation of royals that are going to have to support him."
