Prince William was accused of having a "dirty mind" after he made a rude joke beside Princess Kate during an interview.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were asked their "most used emojis" by BBC Radio 1 host Vick Hope.

William joked: "Is this a clean thing? Is it a family one?"

Kate added: "It depends what group, if it's the family WhatsApp group."

The prince said: "I've been told not to pick the aubergine, so I've got to pick something else.

"It would have been the aubergine, but I'm saying now because I've got to be a little grown up that it's the one with the eyes [that] go up and down, and the mouth."

Princess Kate's response was much cleaner, saying: "It's got to be the heart, with then the crying emoji, the sort of like hysterical laughing when things go wrong."

The interviewers Jordan North and Vick Hope appeared shocked at William's answer.

North said: "He said the aubergine emoji, this is brilliant."

Meanwhile, Hope added: "He knows. He’s got a dirty mind."

Within the same interview, William admitted he cannot eat anything too spicy.

The father-of-three said: "I can’t do too much spice, I start sweating. It’s not attractive."

However, the Princess of Wales quipped: "Whereas I like the spice so I have to sort of cook the curry and then add the extra spice at the end."

"[Kate] has to bring it in gently because otherwise I get too sweaty. It’s not a nice sight," William replied.

The interview took place in Birmingham on Tuesday, as the Waleses took part in various events to mark World Mental Health Day.
