The Prince of Wales will appear on the longest-running children's TV show on Friday

Prince William will receive a special prize for his environmental work during the iconic Blue Peter 65th birthday special programme on Friday.

A keen environmentalist, the Prince of Wales launched the Earthshot Prize in 2020, which aims to search for innovative solutions surrounding climate change.

Blue Peter’s Joel Mawhinney will give the 41-year-old his special green Blue Peter badge on Friday, October 13, during an anniversary episode of the iconic children's show.

During the programme, the prince will help Mawhinney present the "big badge wall", which features nature-themed drawings and letters sent in by viewers.

The green badge was introduced in November 1988, when Prince William was just six-years-old.

For over 35 years, it has been the main focus of Blue Peter’s environmental efforts, rewarding children who prove they care about the planet.

Specifically, they look for children who have helped come up with solutions to climate change, recycling, and protecting animals.

Mawhinney, who is also a magician, shows William a card trick during the programme.

Famous recipients of the green badge include Princess Kate, Sir David Attenborough, Greta Thunberg, Steve Backshall, Chris Packham, Megan McCubbin and Bella Ramsay.

The Prince and Princess of Wales also received the Gold Blue Peter badge in 2017.

The 65th birthday celebrations of Blue Peter will be joined by many former presenters, including Matt Baker, Lindsey Russell and Radzi Chinyanganya.

They will join the current presenters Abby Cook, Joel Mawhinney and Henry the Blue Peter pet.
