The Prince of Wales has been seen in London alongside his wife at the Baftas

Prince William has admitted he is not in "a calm state" just days after his uncle, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

The Prince of Wales spoke while attending the Baftas alongside his wife as part of his role as president of the arts charity.

William was speaking with Elaine Bedell, chief executive of the Southbank Centre, and Allison Kirkby, chief executive of BT Group, when he made the admission after being asked if he had seen Hamnet.

The future King said: "I need to be in quite a calm state and I'm not at the moment. I will save it."

William's comment came in a conversation where he said the Princess of Wales was "in floods of tears" after watching the movie.

Catherine praised the production, describing it as "very powerful" and "fantastic".

Hamnet has broken the record for the most nominations for a female-directed film in BAFTA history, with 11.

The Princess of Wales admitted that she would love for her children to take a closer look at the world of film.

She said: "They love the idea of being behind the scenes and finding out how it all happens."

Catherine told Ms Bedell and Ms Kirkby that "the children are getting into film a bit more".

The future Queen added: "It's a really great way to have some of the hard conversations with them. We have still got a long list of films we haven't seen. Hopefully this will help."

As the awards ceremony got underway, the chairwoman of Bafta, Sara Putt, thanked William for his year-round support.

The royal couple's appearance came just days after William's uncle, Andrew, was arrested, with King Charles having to issue a statement after hearing about the news.

His majesty wrote: "I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office.

"What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities. In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course."

The Prince and Princess of Wales are understood to support the King's statement.

Searches have continued at Andrew's previous home, Royal Lodge, over the weekend after conclusions at Wood Farm, where the former duke currently resides.

Andrew spent 11 hours in police custody on Thursday, being pictured leaving Aylsham Police Station.

The former prince became the first senior royal in modern history to be arrested, and is accused of sharing sensitive information with Epstein while serving as the UK's trade envoy.

Andrew has denied any wrongdoing over his Epstein links, but has not directly responded to the latest allegations.
