Buckingham Palace confirmed the State Visit will take place in April 2026

Sources close to Prince Harry have confirmed he will not be travelling to Washington DC to meet his father when King Charles undertakes his state visit to America next month.

The announcement comes as the Duke of Sussex finds himself in the US capital today, delivering a keynote address at a major technology conference.

Despite both father and son being present in the same country during the royal visit, no reunion has been arranged.

The duke, who relocated to the United States after stepping back from royal duties in 2020, resides on the West Coast with his family in California.

Harry is appearing at the IAPP global summit, an event focused on privacy, artificial intelligence governance and cybersecurity law.

According to the conference organisers, the duke is sharing "his insights on whether today's digital world is breaking or bridging society, and the role we can play in reshaping the future".

The speaking engagement represents one of several public appearances Harry has made since establishing his life in America, where he continues to pursue various charitable and commercial ventures alongside his wife, Meghan Markle.

His presence in Washington today coincides with the confirmation of his father's upcoming transatlantic trip.

Buckingham Palace confirmed on Tuesday that the King and Queen will travel to America on the advice of the Government and at the invitation of President Donald Trump.

The visit, taking place between April 27 and April 30, will commemorate 250 years of American independence.

Their Majesties' itinerary will include a state dinner at the White House, with the King also set to deliver an address to Congress.

Their Majesties are expected to remain on the East Coast, with engagements planned in Washington, DC and New York.

Following the American visit, King Charles will continue alone to Bermuda, marking his first trip to a British overseas territory since becoming monarch.

The relationship between Harry and his father has been strained for some years, with the pair last meeting face to face six months ago during a brief UK visit by the duke for the WellChild Awards.

That encounter, which lasted 54 minutes over private tea, came after a 19-month gap without any in-person contact.

King Charles has not seen his youngest grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in nearly four years, with their last meeting taking place during the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.

Reports suggest Harry hopes to be invited for family time at Sandringham later this year, potentially bringing Meghan and the children.
