Buckingham Palace has announced King Charles will travel to Bermuda without Queen Camilla, marking a significant milestone as his first visit to a British Overseas Territory since ascending to the throne.

The monarch will undertake the trip solo, with the Palace confirming that the Queen will not be joining him following their joint engagements in the US.

The announcement came alongside news of the royal couple’s State Visit to the United States scheduled for next month.

The Bermuda visit represents a historic occasion, as it will be the first time a reigning King has set foot on the island.

The King previously visited Bermuda more than five decades ago in 1970, when he was the Prince of Wales.

Queen Elizabeth II made her final trip to the territory as Sovereign in November 2009, meaning the island has not welcomed a reigning monarch for over sixteen years.

The Duchess of Gloucester became the most recent royal to travel to Bermuda when she visited in October 2025, just months before this latest announcement.

The forthcoming American State Visit will see both the King and Queen travel together, though precise dates remain unconfirmed.

A Palace statement explained that the trip comes "at the invitation of The President of the United States" and will "celebrate the historic connections and the modern bilateral relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States, marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence."

The programme will feature a state dinner hosted at the White House, along with an address by the King to Congress.

US President Donald Trump confirmed a state dinner would take place during a press conference in last week.

President Trump told GB News regarding the monarch: “He is a friend of mine, he is a great gentleman. As you know, he honoured me and our country. We had an amazing time.

“I have known him as Prince Charles, I know him as King Charles, I am proud of him.

President Trump added: “He is going to be here very soon, we are going to have a state dinner, it is going to be great.”

This will constitute Charles inaugural State Visit to America as King, though he travelled to the country nineteen times during his years as Prince of Wales.
