The King held an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle today

Dame Charlotte Manley, who previously served as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's Private Secretary and Treasurer, was elevated to Dame Commander of the Royal Victorian Order by King Charles at Windsor Castle this afternoon.

The 68-year-old, whose name appeared on the monarch's 2026 New Year Honours List, held the position between 2001 and 2003 after joining Mr Mountbatten-Windsor's staff in 1996.

Earlier this month, she indicated her willingness to cooperate with authorities investigating the former Duke of York.

Speaking to The Times, she stated: "I would rather talk to the police than the press, not that I would have much to tell them."

Before entering royal service, Dame Charlotte spent two decades as an officer in the Royal Navy, serving from 1976 to 1996.

Her career alongside Mr Mountbatten-Windsor extended beyond his household duties.

When he was appointed special trade envoy in 2011, she accompanied him on numerous overseas visits documented in the Court Circular, with destinations including New York, Bulgaria, Brazil, Peru and Canada.

Following her departure from Mr Mountbatten-Windsor's office, she continued working within royal circles, taking up the role of chapter clerk at St George's Chapel in Windsor until retiring last year.

She was also among those who welcomed President Trump and the First Lady to Windsor during their 2025 State Visit.

The DCVO represents the second-highest rank within the Royal Victorian Order, conferring upon recipients the right to use the title "Dame".

Dame Charlotte was previously appointed OBE in 1996 and received the Commander of the Royal Victorian Order distinction in 2018.

Mr Mountbatten-Windsor remains under police investigation over allegations he shared documents whilst serving as trade envoy.
