York Central MP Rachael Maskell has called for legislation that would empower King Charles to formally strip Prince Andrew of his titles.
On Friday, the monarch’s brother announced he would no longer use the title of Duke of York in a Buckingham Palace statement.
Prince Andrew declared he would "put my duty to my family and country first" and step back amid "continued accusations" against him.
However, he will legally remain the Duke of York, as to fully revoke the title would require an act of Parliament - but will no longer be known by it or use it personally.
However, Ms Maskell has called on the Government and Royal Family to go further and legally revoke Andrew’s titles.
"Having sought to change the law through my Removal of Titles Bill, I now think it is time for this legislation, which provides the King new powers to be able to remove titles or for a grand committee of both Houses of Parliament to make a recommendation to the King to remove a title," she said.
Regardless, the York Central MP welcomed the decision for Andrew to relinquish the use of his titles.
"I have long called for the title of the Duke of York to be removed in the light that it carries an ambassadorial association with our city," Ms Maskell explained.

"York is England’s only UN Human Rights City and stands for a higher set of values and when polled, 80 per cent of York residents voted for the removal of the title," the Labour MP added.
Darryl Smalley, a City of York councillor, has said the move has been "a long time coming".
"We’d obviously lobbied quite hard and sent several letters to the palace and to Prince Andrew himself, all of which via recorded post and none of which was answered, but obviously a few years later the pressure has meant that the palace has had to act.
"It’s obviously a long time coming, but finally they recognised what a massive liability he is," Mr Smalley said.
Previously, the councillor had proposed a motion to the council to remove Prince Andrew’s freedom of the city status, which was unanimously voted through in 2022.

He shared that he was: "Pleased that a long-running campaign has actually led to something. It’s not often in politics, particularly the royal family, that they seem to listen."
In a statement released on Friday evening, Prince Andrew said: "In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family."
"I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.
"With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me.
"As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me," he concluded.

The decision for Andrew to step away from his title also means that his former wife, Sarah Ferguson, will no longer use her title as Duchess of York.
Their daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, will retain their titles as princesses as they are granddaughters of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Friday’s move comes amid huge public pressure of Andrew relating to his former relationship with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Andrew has always strongly denied the allegations made against him by his late accuser, Virginia Giuffre, who is set to posthumously release her memoirs later this month.
