Prince Harry is flying to the UK following the announcement of King Charles's cancer diagnosis

Prince Harry has been praised by royal fans for returning to the UK following the announcement of his father King Charles's cancer diagnosis.

It was confirmed on Monday evening following Buckingham Palace's statement that the Duke of Sussex will visit his homeland to be with the Royal Family.

In a statement released on Monday, Buckingham Palace revealed that the monarch had been diagnosed with "a form of cancer", and will begin "scheduled regular treatment" immediately.

The King is said to be "wholly positive" following the diagnosis, which comes after undergoing a "corrective procedure" for a "benign enlarged prostate" last week.

Prince Harry has faced widespread backlash in recent years since stepping down from royal life and moving to California with wife Meghan Markle.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been involved in several projects since their exit which have cast a negative light on his family, including his tell-all memoir Spare, released last year.

Royal commentator Ingrid Seward told GB News that the return of Prince Harry is "unhelpful" and the King "does not need" his son getting involved at such a tense time for the family.

Gathering the opinions from royal fans in London, locals sent the King and the Royal Family their well wishes as they reacted to the news.

One Briton said of the King's health news amid royal rift: "This whole family feud thing seems a bit silly in my opinion - hopefully this brings them together a little bit more.

"It's surprising, but I imagine the fact that they've released the news means he's probably going to be OK. I hope he's all right."

In praise of Prince Harry's decision to fly back to the UK, another Londoner told Reuters: "He's got to come back to see his father, hasn't he? It's the right thing to do."

An American couple then revealed this is the first time they have been to London, and were shocked by the royal news. They wished the King well, saying: "Our prayers are with him and his family."

Speaking to another royal supporter, they expressed their "shock" about the King's health news, but praised the announcement for highlighting that cancer is something "a lot of families experience".

She added: "Although it's a shock, hopefully he'll get through it. I think with any family bust up, it's sad."
