BYD said Denza would launch in the coming months, with the Z9GT acting as its flagship model

Chinese manufacturing giant BYD has announced that it will showcase its premium Denza brand at the UK's historic Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend.

BYD, which has established a strong foothold in the UK's new vehicle market, is looking to shake things up even more with the public unveiling of its Denza premium brand.

The brand will have a dedicated space at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex this weekend to display the "stunning and elegant" Z9GT, which comes as a Super DM Hybrid or an electric vehicle.

It will also exhibit the D9 MPV and B5 premium SUV, ahead of its planned launch of sales in the UK at the beginning of 2026.

BYD said the Z9GT will demonstrate the vehicle's "many unique features to the premium market" and show off the brand's e3 technology platform.

Speaking previously at Everything Electric London, Bono Ge, UK Country Manager for BYD, praised the technology included in the vehicles as being superior to other competitors on the market.

He noted that the e3 platform contains three individual motors, with one main driving motor allowing for compass turning, allowing the vehicle to turn from the rear.

Ge said this would help drivers navigate "challenging" parking spaces in London, in addition to the UK's countless narrow streets.

The e3 platform allows motorists to perform compass U-turns, alongside precision and torque control, supreme steering and parking assistance.

It also touts "world-beating reaction times", which provide higher levels of safety and "dynamic involvement".

Stella Li, executive vice president of BYD, said: "We're thrilled to be introducing Denza to UK customers, especially at the iconic Goodwood Festival of Speed."

She noted that the brand has taken particular inspiration from European design and that British car enthusiasts would "find inspiration".

Li added that Denza vehicles have "sophisticated technologies, the finest craftsmanship and, for the first time in this segment, a true focus on efficient, sustainable new-energy powertrains".

Denza was originally created as a joint venture with Mercedes-Benz, although the manufacturer is now solely owned by Xi'an-based BYD.

The Denza D9 has an eight-in-one electric motor, an electric range of 600km and fast charging capabilities to charge 150km of range in just 10 minutes.

BYD said more than 120,000 engineers are "working constantly" on the development of these vehicles and innovative technology to improve the experience of the driver.

The concept of European design was emphasised by Wolfgang Egger, design director at Denza, who highlighted how every surface must have a relationship, likening it to following rules in architecture.

He said: "True lines enhance the beauty of the sculpture, and this is what we have worked towards with Denza design. In the case of silk, it is an inspiration in many ways.

"Take a sculpture, or a vehicle like the Denza Z9GT, and cover it in silk. Then take the same item and cover it with cotton, and you'll notice a big difference.

"You know what happens: the silk falls naturally and covers the body but still shows, under the surface, the beauty of what is already there."
