Thousands of members of the public will have the opportunity to join the audience for this commemorative event

Princess Kate and Prince William will attend a special VE Day 80 celebration concert at Horse Guards Parade this evening.

The royal couple will be joined by King Charles and Queen Camilla for the live event marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.


Their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will not be attending the event as it is a school night.

The young royals were also absent from the Thanksgivng Service at Westminster Abbey earlier today.

The concert, titled "VE Day 80: A Celebration to Remember", will be available to watch live this evening.

The event will feature veterans and wartime heroes reflecting on their experiences of VE Day and the Second World War.

It forms part of the national commemorations marking eight decades since the end of the war in Europe.

The concert will feature performances by a range of artists including Samantha Barks, Fleur East and John Newman.

Strictly Come Dancing professionals will also deliver special performances during the evening.

Actor Brian Cox will provide a dramatic reading, re-enacting Sir Winston Churchill's famous war speech.

Zoe Ball will present the concert, which aims to echo the historic celebrations from 80 years ago.

The King and Queen were joined by The Prince and Princess of Wales, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, The Princess Royal and Sir Tim Laurence, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and The Duke of Kent.

Upon arrival, the Royal Family joined the congregation in observing a national two-minute silence of reflection and remembrance.

The Service of Thanksgiving commemorated the sacrifice of the Second World War generation.
