The Prince of Wales and Sir David have maintained a close relationship through their shared passion for environmental conservation

Prince William has shared a family photograph featuring Princess Kate and their three children alongside Sir David Attenborough.

The Prince of Wales posted the image to mark the broadcaster's 99th birthday today.


The family picture was taken at Kensington Palace in 2020 and shows the royal couple with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

William also shared a second image from their recent meeting at the Royal Festival Hall, where they watched Attenborough's new film 'Ocean with David Attenborough' on Tuesday.

In his touching birthday message to Sir David, William wrote: "As he turns 99 today, in his new film, Sir David has once again reminded us of the need to protect natural habitats - this time those beneath the ocean."

The prince praised Attenborough's lifelong dedication to environmental awareness.

"He has dedicated his life to ensuring we understand the realities of what mankind is doing to the planet," William continued.

Despite the serious nature of his message, William noted that "Sir David always leaves us with a sense of hope and optimism that all is not lost and this film is no different."

He signed off with a personal touch: "Happy Birthday, David. W."

The 35-year-old royal took to social media to back the new film 'Ocean', which both the King and Prince of Wales attended separate screenings of.

The documentary is set to debut in cinemas before streaming on Disney+.

It aims to share "the story of how we can, and must, restore the glory of Earth's vast, interconnected waters".

Princess Eugenie shared a clip of the conservationist issuing a call to action over protecting the world's oceans, declaring "what happens next is up to us".

She also posted footage from the film featuring boxer crabs and peacock mantis shrimp.
