The Prime Minister opened the Labour party conference announcing the new Hillsborough Law
Prime Minister Keir Starmer has opened the Labour Party Conference this weekend discussing the new Hillsborough Law that will place a legal duty of candour on all public officials to prevent cover-ups like those seen after some of Britain’s worst scandals.
The law, demanded for years by the families of those who died at Hillsborough, will require officials to act with honesty and integrity at all times.
Under the plans, public servants who mislead the public could face criminal prosecution, with a new offence created to punish those who cover up the truth.
