Tory Party donor Frank Hester made some "racist" comments about Diane Abbott

Postal Affairs Minister Kevin Hollinrake has defended the Prime Minister’s decision to leave it to his spokesman to react to racist comments by Tory Party donor Frank Hester about Diane Abbott.

He told GB News: “If there's a spokesman for the Prime Minister, that is his view. I don't think he would contradict his own spokesperson.

“I think you can take it that it is his view, he said very clearly that these comments were racist and wrong, but also pointed out quite rightly that this is the most diverse cabinet in history.

“We are not a racist party. We don't condone that kind of racist language.

“The gentleman himself has apologised, but you can take it from the fact that it’s his spokesman that those are the Prime Minister's clear views.”

Asked why he took all day to respond when Kemi Badenoch was quick to call it out, he told Eamonn Holmes and Isabel Webster: “Kemi was very clear in terms of how she regarded this language. I think he's very clear.

“We shouldn't judge people. people's character by their skin colour, it is absolutely the wrong thing to say. It is racist, racist language and we don't condone it at all.”

He added: “The gentleman has apologised, and I think we should move on from what was the wrong thing to say in a private conversation.”
