Sadiq Khan has called on Sir Keir Starmer to recognise Palestine as a state as the number of senior Labour figures putting pressure on the Prime Minister grows.
Khan said that the Government should "immediately recognise Palestinian statehood" and argued that there "can be no two-state solution if there is no viable state left to call Palestine".
In his statement, the London Mayor said that the scenes in Gaza were "absolutely harrowing".
He added: "In heartbreaking scenes, innocent lives are being torn apart before the eyes of the world.
"The international community – including our own Government – must do far more to pressure the Israeli Government to stop this horrific, senseless killing and let vital life-saving aid in.
"Nothing justifies the actions of the Israeli Government. The UK must immediately recognise Palestinian statehood. There can be no two-state solution if there is no viable state left to call Palestine."
However, Shadow Foreign Secretary Priti Patel urged Khan to focus on "fixing his own mess in the capital".
She said: "Sadiq Khan has an appalling record of governance in London - from presiding over record levels of crime, to businesses abandoning our great capital city, to his failure to get London moving, he continues to let London down.
"He should spend less time trying to play on the world stage, where his Labour Government has already undermined Britain's standing significantly, and focus on fixing his own mess in the capital."

Defence Secretary John Healey met with Turkish counterpart Yasar Guler to discuss a future deal to export Eurofighter Typhoons.
The pair signed a joint memorandum as they closed in on a deal to export high-level fighter jets to Turkey.
No official deal has been signed, with further negotiations set to take place in the coming weeks.
A deal would support 20,000 high-skilled workers in the UK, who the People's Channel previously spoke to.
One worker said it was "very concerning" that a deal had not been achieved, with the last order placed for Typhoons coming back in 2018.
Liberal Democrats demand Labour end all arms sales to Israel
Sir Ed Davey has called on Labour to "end all arms exports" to Israel immediately.
The Lib Dem leader wrote on social media: "Mass starvation in Gaza and over 1,000 Palestinians killed while seeking aid since May.
"The government says the situation is intolerable yet they continue to tolerate it. The UK needs to stop all arms exports to the Israeli Government, today."
It comes as over 110 aid agencies issued a dire warning that "mass starvation" was spreading across Gaza and urged Israel to let humanitarian aid into the besieged strip to alleviate the growing hunger crisis.
Keir Starmer accused of being 'disconnected from reality' over housing asylum seekers - 'He’s lost control!'
Keir Starmer has been accused of being 'disconnected from reality' over housing asylum seekers
PA
Sir Keir Starmer has been accused of having "lost control" over the housing of asylum seekers in hotels.
The Prime Minister had previously insisted there is "lots of housing available" to accommodate both rising numbers of homeless people and asylum seekers.
However, appearing before the Liaison Committee, he was unable to say specifically where extra housing needed to help homeless families or migrants would come from.
Now, newly appointed shadow Housing Secretary Sir James Cleverly has told reporters that the Prime Minister is "disconnected from reality."
The former Home Secretary and Braintree MP told LBC: "The government has lost control.
"And to add insult to injury, we saw the prime minister at the Liaison Committee just this week blithely saying, 'there are plenty of houses for asylum seekers', when there are people all over the country struggling to get on the housing ladder.
"That complete disconnect from reality, I think, is driving a lot of frustrations.
Kelvin MacKenzie warns 'something very worrying in the air' over Epping protests
Kelvin MacKenzie has warned that there is something "worrying in the air" following violent protests outside a suspected migrant hotel in Epping.
Writing for GB News Members, the former editor of The Sun said: "I don’t think Nigel Farage is exaggerating. There is something very worrying in the air.
"I can’t quite put my finger on it, but my sense is that the Reform leader is right when he claims the UK is on the brink of ‘'societal collapse'.
"Could that phrase be too strong? Farage is certainly not alone with his concerns."

Co-leader of the Green Party and Bristol Central MP Carla Denyer
GETTY
Outgoing Green Party co-leader Carla Denyer has slammed the Home Office's plans to share asylum hotel locations with food delivery companies as an "absurd gimmick."
The Bristol Central MP wrote on social media: "Stopping asylum seekers from working pushes people into destitution and forces reliance on meagre welfare payments.
"Time for a common-sense change to law to allow asylum seekers to work, to support themselves and contribute to the economy."
Sir Sadiq Khan 'shares advice' with Donald Trump-hating New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani
Sir Sadiq Khan shared words of advice for New York mayoral hopeful Zohran Mamdani after his triumph in the Democratic primary.
Socialist candidate Mamdani beat former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo last month following a successful campaign.
Since the victory, the could-be Mayor and Khan have spoken over the phone, a source told The Telegraph.
Khan was last year re-elected as London mayor for a historic third term, with a winning margin of 275,000 votes, beating Tory candidate Susan Hall.
Teenager voted in as UK's youngest council leader says universities are a 'conveyor belt for socialist wokeism'
Britain's youngest council leader has slammed colleges and universities as "conveyer belts for socialist wokeism."
George Finch, the new 18-year-old leader of Warwickshire County Council, said he had plans to be a teacher before being attracted to Reform UK.

"Universities and colleges are a conveyor belt for socialist wokeism."
Paralympic legend and crossbench peer says disabled people are being portrayed as 'drain on society'
Paralympic legend Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson has warned there had been "a lot of victim blaming" as disabled people were being unfairly portrayed as "drain on society."
The crossbench peer highlighted criticism levelled at the Motability scheme, which entitled eligible individuals to lease a new car using part of their benefit.
Speaking in the Lords, Lady Grey-Thompson said she had received many emails from people worried about the proposed changes.
She said: "Disabled people are being portrayed as benefit scroungers and a drain on society...I am concerned that the tone of the debate has generated quite a lot of victim-blaming for disabled people.
"This is never more apparent than in the debate around Motability cars...In the media, it is being portrayed as a free car, which it is not, and we should remember that over the years it has considerably helped the car industry.
"There is a website, which was taken down over the weekend, with promises to put it back up, to help people detect if 'an annoying neighbour' is seen driving a new car.
"This is terrifying for a number of disabled people. It has been reported to the police. It feels like it crosses a line to incitement"

Liberal Democrats say Tories are 'clearly dead' as a political force in Wales after Reform defection
The Liberal Democrats have said the Conservatives are "clearly dead" in Wales after Laura Anne Jones defected to Reform UK.
Welsh Liberal Democrat spokesman and Brecon, Radnor & Cwm Tawe MP David Chadwick said: "The Conservatives are clearly dead as a political force in Wales.
"But let’s be clear: Reform has no answers for Wales, just more noise, division, and is seemingly now only a vehicle for failed Conservative politicians.
"The Welsh Liberal Democrats are standing up to Reform and defending the public services our communities rely on, offering the serious leadership Wales desperately needs.
"Our party’s DNA is interwoven with Welsh history and identity. Next year, we will be fighting hard to build a fairer, more Liberal future for Wales.
"For voters who feel the Conservatives have abandoned them and are appalled by Reform, our door is open."
Ann Widdecombe warns rational criticism of Islam 'could fall foul of the law'
Reform UK's justice spokeswoman Ann Widdecombe has warned that rational criticism of Islam could "fall foul of the law."

Writing for GB News Members, Widdecombe said: "If it is not okay to mock Islam, then it is not okay to mock any other religion.
"If it is acceptable to take the name of the Lord in vain in contravention of the third commandment in Judeo-Christian teaching, then it is acceptable to take the name of the prophet in vain."
James Cleverley said he would 'not shadow' Angela Rayner as he praises deputy PM for 'successfully outmanoeuvring' Keir Starmer
Sir James Cleverly will not shadow Angela Rayner in her role as Deputy Prime Minister, he confirmed, after he was appointed as her opposition counterpart for housing.
He told ITV: "I’m the Shadow Housing Secretary. In opposition, structures are different and requirements are different.
"And in terms of Deputy Prime Minister, I think that’s a job title, rather than a job, an excuse to have an even more bloated Civil Service hierarchy at the centre of Westminster.
"I think that is a reflection on how Angela Rayner has very successfully outmanoeuvered Keir Starmer at every turn, and has accumulated authority and power at the heart of government.
"And I don’t, I don’t feel the need to shadow that cumbersome bureaucracy."

Sir Keir Starmer wrote on social media: "We’re cracking down on migrants working illegally as food delivery riders.
"We'll share asylum accommodation locations with Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats so they can take action if riders are staying there. We will do what it takes to ensure fairness for British people."

Keir Starmer coming under Cabinet pressure to recognise Palestinian state immediately
The Prime Minister is under increasing pressure from his own Cabinet members to immediately recognise Palestine as a state.
A number of senior Labour members have urged Sir Keir Starmer to press ahead with plans as the situation in Gaza grows more desperate.
While the Prime Minister has said he would recognise Palestine as part of a peace process, it would only be in conjunction with other western countries and "at the point of maximum impact", without specifying what that means.
A Cabinet minister told The Guardian: "We say that recognising Palestinian statehood is a really important symbol that you can only do once. But if not now, then when?"
Among those who are believed to have brought up the humanitarian situation in Gaza and recognition of Palestinian statehood are Health Secretary Wes Streeting and Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood.

GB NEWS
Sir James Cleverley has told GB News he returned to frontline politics as Labour had made "so many mistakes."
The new Shadow Housing Secretary said he was glad to have taken a "breather" since he finished third in last year's leadership contest.
The MP for Braintree told the People's Channel: "When Kemi spoke over the weekend and asked me to come back to the frontline I was delighted to.
"In the year since Labour came in, they have made so many mistakes and caused so many problems, that really I think we need to do everything we can to hold them to account. "
